Boris and Theo are so well written.. how does Donna Tartt get so deeply into the heads of these young men from adolescence to young adulthood? A hugely popular book and rightly so. I wonder if any one else thought of her writing New York and Las Vegas as a very mellowed out Tom Wolfe? The art world backdrop and eventually key plot moments around the criminality of this peculiar market. The drug world well she has that down too. Maybe not such a joy on the page but the way that our audible narrator has Boris calling Theo by the nickname he bestowed on first sight at age 13 or so — “Potter.” It is perfect.
