“A very dangerous sign for me…”

Slavoj Zizek wrote that in 2005 just prior to the election a popular BBC talk show sponsored a “who is the most hated person in Britain” contest.  Tony Blair won this poll. One week later he was elected Prime Minister for the third time.

“This is a very dangerous sign for me. Obviously there is some strong level of dissatisfaction, which cannot be captured by the electoral system.”

“We have to ask questions about the representative democracy we have today: Is it still able to capture the social discontent or formulate the relevant public demands?”
